Asphalt & Sidewalk Cutting

Straight, clean saw cuts for paving repairs, utility trenches and driveway edges.

Resurfacing your driveway, fixing a sidewalk, or running a utility trench through asphalt? Saw-cutting the asphalt is the clean way to do it. We cut straight, sharp lines through asphalt with a gas-powered saw and diamond blade, so the new paving or repair butts up against a crisp edge. We work all over Ottawa-Gatineau, for homeowners, paving companies and general contractors alike.

What asphalt cutting is used for

How it works

We show up, measure and chalk the cut lines, then saw full depth with water to keep dust down. A typical driveway cut is done in under an hour.

Need the cut material broken out and hauled away too? We can handle concrete and rock demolition on the same visit.

Why saw instead of just breaking it?

It's tempting to go straight at it with a jackhammer, but asphalt broken at random leaves jagged, crumbling edges that new paving will never bond well against. A saw cut gives you a straight line that stays sharp, a clean seam between old and new, and less material to replace. It takes a few extra minutes, but it's the difference between a repair that lasts and a patch that pops after the first winter.

A real job site: garage apron in Gatineau

A typical summer job: a garage apron that had sunk a good three inches. We saw-cut the asphalt in a straight line four feet from the garage door, the paving crew pulled out the failed section, rebuilt the base and repaved. The seam is invisible and water no longer runs into the garage. Cut in the morning, paved by the afternoon.

Planning a paving project in Ottawa-Gatineau?

Call us before your paving crew shows up. The cut has to happen first — a straight, full-depth saw line is what separates a driveway that looks new for twenty years from one that breaks apart at the seams after two winters. We coordinate directly with paving contractors all season long, and we can usually fit a standard driveway cut into a half-day window. Homeowners, pavers and GCs all get the same deal: straight lines, clean edges, no surprises on the invoice. Send us your measurements or a photo of the area and we'll give you a number before we ever start the saw.

From $300

Pricing depends on linear footage, asphalt thickness and site access. A typical driveway edge or garage apron cut runs $300 to $600. Longer trenches are priced per linear foot.

Frequently asked questions

Why saw asphalt instead of breaking it?

Because a sawn edge is straight and sound. New paving or a patch bonds to solid material instead of resting on crumbling edges — the joint lasts far longer.

How thick can you cut?

Residential asphalt is usually 2 to 4 inches, commercial lots up to 8 inches or more. We cut both, and we can go through the gravel base if the trench needs to run deeper.

Do you cut sidewalks and concrete curbs too?

Yes. Sidewalks, street curbs, walkway slabs — it is the same flat sawing, with a blade suited to concrete rather than asphalt.

Do you work for paving contractors?

Yes, and it is a good share of our volume. Boundary sawing before excavation, utility trenches, patch cuts — with volume rates on repeat contracts.
